Yesterday at lunch Ryan didn't want his yogurt.  I gave him the rest of his lunch and turned around to make myself a quick bite.  When I turned back to Ryan, I saw that, yes, he did want his yogurt, but he wanted to feed it to himself.  He was both entertained and proud of himself.  He was also extremely messy!

No Sparks

I read the latest Nicholas Sparks Book The Lucky One.  I know he's not quite considered a literary great, but I was disappointed.  His books are always easy reads and somewhat entertaining, but I found that this was following the same course as most of his books--main characters forge a relationship, there's a storm and a fight, then the end.  It's not that I expected much more, but the ending totally left something to be desired.  I felt like the curtain fell before the last act was through.  I felt cheated.  I do not like when I come to the end of a book feeling like I wasted all that time reading it.  Endings are very important to me, and I just didn't see the sparks in this one.

Quiet Dinners

One might have thought that the quiet, lonely dinners would end when my husband returned from Afghanistan.  They would be wrong.

True, I have Ryan to eat dinner with, but he's really not too talkative yet.  Our conversations usually begin and end with one syllable words that don't really refer to anything.

It's after 8:40 p.m., and Pat's still at work.  Last night he got home at 7 p.m.  I've been trying to remind myself that the people I know in the civilian world often work such hours, so what right do I have to complain.  I think my griping stems from the fact that he goes away usually for a year at a time added to theses long hours so that when he is home I don't see him.  Thankfully I still have a year before the next year long absence, but yes, it is already planned and scheduled.

Don't get me wrong, I am very happy to have him home.  I know I am lucky to have him sleep in my bed at night.  I just wish we were able to enjoy the time we have together a little more.  Hopefully things at work will slow down soon.

We all consider ourselves a bit Irish in this house, but Abbey found out it's not always easy being green!

Do you have one (or more) of these friends?

Do you have one (or more) of the friends that when you talk or write only wants to talk about themselves.  I'm noticing this trend more and more lately.  At first I thought it was just a one time thing or that something big was going on for them, but then I realized that it wasn't an isolated incident; certain people only want to talk about themselves.  I completely understand that we are all guilty of this occasionally, but when it happens over and over, it's a bad habit.  So a message to all self-involved people out there:  Your friends notice that you only care to talk about your life, and it starts to wear down friendships when you don't want to hear about what is going on with your friends.  Listening can be a very important skill.

Happy Birthday Hubby!

Yesterday was the hubby's birthday.  He's finally as old as I am again, so his teasing can stop until the fall when I become another year older.  I feel bad that we didn't have a traditional birthday celebration.  I bought Pat his birthday gifts last weekend while we were out at the store together.  He wanted a table saw and stand, and since it was a big box, I figured it was just easier to get it while he was with me.  I also bought him a sander.  He's already started building things, and I can tell that makes him happy.  I didn't have any gifts for Pat to open yesterday, but I did cook his favorite meal--corned beef with carrots.  That meal was a success and very yummy.  I'll even go further to admit what a bad wife I am by telling you that Pat picked up his own birthday cake.  He wanted an ice cream cake from Cold Stone.  Anyone that knows Pat can guess what kind he wanted--chocolate on chocolate on chocolate.  While last night wasn't the normal birthday celebration one might expect, it worked out really well.  Pat was able to call his buddy from College to come over for some cake.  I know Pat always has fun when he's able to hang out with Sap.    I know this is a little late in the blog world, but Happy Birthday Pat!
